  70. I have an MFJ 1270. When I read about that clock chip I remembered having
  71. seen something similar from Dallas semiconductor. It was a Dallas DS1216C.
  72. Having access to one, I tried it and sure enough it worked.

  90. I have gone to the Dayton Hamvention for the last 3 years, and have
  91. dutifully filled out the ticket stub w/ name and address.  Someone told
  92. me that would get me on a mailing list to receive yearly flyers
  93. (with the early-purchase ticket price) but so far no luck.

  133. efficiency on 160 metres and still present manageable (sp?) impedances to
  134. the balun on 80 and 40 metres and above.  I built the balun he suggested in
  135. the articlebut have yet to try it; with a new baby in the house, spare
  136. time is a precious commodity indeed!

  424. KA9RLJ was the QSL mgr that HH2PK himself was giving out during the 
  425. WAE RTTY Contest.  However, I don't have a card back yet after a month, 
  426. so I can't absolutely confirm.

  429. Port-au-prince.

  455. magnetic mount 2 meter antenna, if your talkie has a BNC connector for
  456. its rubber duckie.  When you're in the locomotive, stick the magmount
  457. up in the air a few feet from the window (away from immediately nearby
  458. objects, a broad somewhat flat area is best, have antenna vertical).
  459. (I would have thought the locos would have had built in dashboard radios,
  460. and an AM/FM cassette player? :-)  ).  Anyway, this would get the RF away
  461. from your body, and probably improve reception.  A 2 meter antenna should
  462. work reasonably well on radios on 160 MHz.

  485. Have you checked out something like the Icom 2-SAT?  Small size is
  486. currently a major selling point, and some of the latest generation may be
  487. even smaller; the 2-SAT fits almost anywhere.  It has an option available
  488. which allows coded paging, i.e., you can set it so the transmitting unit
  489. must enter a set of tones on the touchtone pad to open the squelch of the
  490. receiving unit.  This is in addition to the CTCSS tone squelch which is
  491. also available as an option.  All this stuff fits right inside 2-SAT's tiny
  492. case.  Sounds to me like just what you want.

  506.    I'm still a couple hundred articles behind because I was gone for 3
  507. weeks, but I wanted to pass along the following with regard to repeater
  508. site security:
  509.    Back in the late 70's I was considering installing a remote base to 
  510. facilitate getting into the L.A. area with a better signal. My plan was
  511. to dig a small vault only large enough to hold the necessary equipment;
  512. a vent pipe, leading from the vault to slightly above ground level would
  513. be hidden by replanted brush. The coax would run underground to a nearby
  514. tree which would have supported and hidden the antennas and solar panal.

  562. wind-fall to advance its own direct interests, could find a way
  563. to provide a service to the ham radio community by, say, starting
  564. a program of reconditioning equipment for school stations and 
  565. for young hams, and providing a source of vacuum tubes for others
  566. who are doing the same?

  587. I have hiked several times with my Cushcraft 4 element 2 meter beam.  If you
  588. need the extra gain from a beam, it works great and is not overly bulky to
  589. carry if you pack it into a tube or keep it in the original box.  I use
  590. wingnuts to speed the assembly process and have a portable tripod to mount
  591. the thing.  It's sort of home-brewed out of a similar design I saw in the
  592. ARRL handbook.  Anyway, like someone else said here, the AEA Hotrod is a
  593. great little telescopic antenna that outperforms a duck several times over.
